Grape Of The Week: Touriga Franca
Touriga Franca, a natural offspring of Touriga Nacional and Marufo, is the most widely planted grape in Douro, Portugal, accounting for a fifth of the total vine area. Despite its abundance, Touriga Franca is less popular than Touriga Nacional. One of the five official grapes for Port wine and an important varietal in Douro blends, Touriga Franca is often blended with Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional. Fantastic as a rosé, red, sparkling, or fortified wine, Touriga Franca displays notes of blackberry, pomegranate, crushed rose petals, and pink peppercorn. Enjoy this grape alongside roasted meats, beef stew, and rich desserts.

Aged for approximately 3 years in oak, Niepoort's Tawny Port is lovely and mouthwatering, offering fresh, sweet fruit flavors and silky, soft tannins. This fortified wine from the Douro, the heart of Portugal's port producing region, serves as the perfect drink at the end of a meal. Pair with numerous desserts or a selection of salty cheeses.
