Quinta do Popa
The story of Quinta de Pôpa begins with a passion and a dream. In this case, a family’s passion for the vine and the dream of creating world class wines in one of Portugal’s best and oldest wine regions. Zeca Ferreira’s family worked in vineyards for generations. His father, Francisco “Pôpa” Ferreira was the son of a prominent local wine producer, and worked for years to build a legacy of his own. Though recognition for his work eluded him, Pôpa's dream of recognition would be realized through his son years later.
Leaving his formal education behind after 4th grade, Zeca embraced the life of the winemaker, with years of hard work in the vineyard culminating in the purchase of Quinta do Vidiedo, located in Adorigo, just steps away from the Douro River. In 2003, he renamed the winery Quinta do Pôpa, in honor of his father.
Recognizing potential in Zeca’s exceptional wines, legendary Bairrada oenologist Luís Pato, offered his expertise, challenging the next generation of the family – Stéphane and Vanessa Ferreira – to take the family dream even further. Today, the Quinta do Popa comprises 14 hectares of vineyard composed of a mixture of noble grape varieties, including Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cao, Sousao and Malvasia Preta.
