A thrill for the taste buds, orange wines offer a unique twist for white wine lovers, while still appealing to fans of tannic red wines. These wines can be big, dry, and occasionally funky, depending on how they’re made. The level of funkiness can vary based on things like fermentation time on the skins and organic or biodynamic farming practices.

To celebrate #NationalOrangeWineDay on October 6th, we’re ranking our orange wines from least to most funky. While the funkiness of a wine is subjective, there's definitely an orange wine out there for everyone! Least Funky

Incredibly gulpable, these wines are a bit more fruit forward displaying tropical fruits, stone fruits, and citrus. If you're on the fence about orange wines, these are fantastic entry-level options to explore.

Medium Funky

These wines are a little more complex with savory herbs backing the fruit notes, making them great alongside food. For the most part these wines are organic or unfiltered. If you've already tried orange wine or like wines with a bit more nuance, these are some incredibly fun options.

Most Funky

The funkiest of orange wines usually spend the longest time with skin contact. Instead of hours or a couple days, they spend weeks or months fermenting with the skins. Although fruit and herbaceous notes are still present, these wines typically lean towards more earthy notes like forest floor and button mushrooms. These are for people who love orange wines or like to be a tad adventurous when it comes to wine.
