Vecchia Grappa

750ml

Sale price$26.00

Caffo Vecchia Grappa is a grappa invecchiata produced at Caffo Distilleria Friulia in Udine, Italy. In accordance with the G.I. for grappa, this invecchiata-style grappa is produced in Italy using 100% Italian-grown grape pomace and is barrel aged at least 1 year. Carefully distilled in a bain-marie alembic pot still wherein the grape skins are steam distilled, the time spent in oak further rounds out the harsh edges typically associated with the category. The nose provides aromas of steamed jasmine rice, stone ground wheat, wood pulp, and cherimoya custard apple. The palate shows a great balance between dry fruit and barrel notes with red apple skin, sourdough bread, and toasted barley, with faint vanilla and white oak on the finish.

Caffo

The Caffo distillery dates back to 1865, when Joseph Gruner began to distill the marc from the wine he produced on the slopes of Mt. Etna in Sicily. As the business grew, the family purchased properties in Calabria and Friuli. Today they produce grappas, fruit brandies and liqueurs of high-quality using traditional techniques.
