Taken from Granite 'Swan Song' 2001

750ml

Sale price$90.00

Produced by acclaimed winemaker Gideon Beinstock (co-founder of Clos Saron) during his tenure at the now-defunct Renaissance Vineyard and Winery, this is an extraordinary organic Cabernet Sauvignon made from vines planted in the late 1970s on ungrafted rootstock over extremely rocky, mineral-rich, granitic soils in the Sierra Foothills. Barely 400 cases of this stunning red were produced. It is perfectly evolved and energetic, filled with dusty berries, savory dried herbs, light smoke and cedar. Hailing from 2001, one of California’s best vintages, decant for at least two hours to allow this magical red to reach its full potential and enjoy alongside a beautiful steak or savory mushroom polenta for a taste of aged California wine at its finest. “Swan Song” is, in Beinstock’s words, “a handpicked treasure from the Golden Age of the Renaissance Vineyard,” and as the name suggests, may very well be the last release of Beinstock’s wine from this unique terroir. Great for collectors!

Clos Saron/Taken From Granite

Along the northern tip of the Sierra Foothills, Gideon Beinstock produces some of the most unique and exciting small batch wines in California using organic farming and minimal intervention in the cellar. At the much heralded Renaissance Winery, where Beinstock was the winemaker for 16 years, he produced uniquely focused, ageworthy, and mineral-driven wines that reflect the rocky terroir of the North Yuba Foothills. At Clos Saron, the vineyard he founded with his partner Saron Rice, his focus is on boldly fascinating reds and whites that represent California winemaking at its finest. The Taken from Granite wines were produced by Beinstock during his time at Renaissance, renown for their complexity, and bottled only when Beinstock feels they are ready to showcase their radiant nerve and energy.
