Sasikume Rioja Alavesa 2024

750ml

Sale price$28.50

Trousseau from Spain? The name Sasikume means “bastard” in the Basque language of Euskera, a playful nod to Trousseau’s name in other parts of Spain — Bastardo. The label, featuring a whimsical chicken-goat hybrid, captures winemaker Melanie Hickman’s love of animals and sense of humor. Refreshing and medium-bodied, this chillable red with notes of red berries, pink and red florals, and lightly candied fruit is an amazing partner for turkey, Cornish Hens, and other holiday fare. Sasikume is meant to be enjoyed with a sense of fun, yet its complexity invites curiosity and celebrates life’s surprises.

Eteria Kripan

Founded by Melanie Hickman, a North American who followed her heart to Spain, where she invested my life savings to purchase her first vineyard in Rioja Alavesa. That marked the beginning of her winemaking journey under the name of Etérea Kripan. With a focus on biodynamic viticulture, biodiversity, and eco-conscious practices, she’s worked alongside her partner David Sampietro at Bodegas Bhilar to craft wines that intertwine land stewardship with environmental awareness.
