Rossofongoli Umbria Rosso 2024

750ml

Sale price$23.00

Hailing from the rolling hills of Montefalco in Umbria, this Sangiovese-Montepulciano blend captures the essence of fall in a glass — rustic, earthy, and brimming with energy. High-toned cherry and wild blackberry aromas lead the nose, layered with savory herbs, spice, and subtle smoky minerals beneath. On the palate, the wine is lively and crunchy, its refreshing brightness showcasing pure, raw fruit character. The finish is refreshing and herbaceous, perfect for serving slightly chilled alongside steak, roasted vegetables, and hearty pasta dishes.

Fongoli

Founded by Decio Fongoli in the early 1900s, when he acquired a property comprising several farms located at the top of the San Marco hill, in the heart of the Montefalco winemaking region, Fongoli started out as a typical farm, raising cattle and pigs, as well as producing bulk wine and olive oil. The first estate-bottled wines date back to the 1940s, thanks to Angelo Fongoli, Decio's son. His great-grandson, Angelo, now helms the estate, which stretches across nearly 40 hectares of vines, vineyards, olive trees, and forest. About 20 of these hectares are now planted in traditional grape varieties of the region – Trebbiano Spoletino, Grechetto, Sangiovese, Montepulciano and Sagrantino – the oldest of which are more than 40 years old. The vines have been certified organic by Ecocert since 2013, and since then only the use of sulfur and limited copper on the vines, the planting of soveccia - legumes, grains and other nitrogen-rich, complex-rooted plants that open the soil and add nutrients. More recently, Angelo with his wife Letizia have begun working the farm completely in biodynamic techniques, seeking quality grapes over quantity production.
