It’s easy to forget about the rich wine heritage of Alsace, located in a sliver of western France, steps from the German border. This textured and lively white is here to challenge that notion. Produced from Pinot Auxerrois grown on 35+ year-old vines, this dry white carries the barest hint of sweetness (8-9g residual sugar), yet it is vibrant and mineral enough to stand up to a host of dishes, from roast pork to tarte flambee, wintry salads,  and even fondue. It’s a great ambassador of an exceptional region.

Domaine Maurice Schoech

From coopers, to vinegrowers, winemakers, and wine brokers, the Schoech family can trace its roots in the vineyards of Ammerschwihr back to 1650. In fact, artifacts the family’s rich heritage are on proud display in their cellar. Today its managed by a new generation, brothers Jean-Léon and Sebastien Schoech, and extends across 11 hillside hectares—four of which lie in Grand Cru vineyards—mostly in Ammerschwihr (except for one 0.5 ha plot in the famed Rangen de Thann vineyard, 15km south of the village). The estate converted to organic and biodynamic farming, and has been certified organic since 2014.
