In Sicilian, core means heart. Core is also the name of the roughly heart-shaped vineyard cru from which this wine hails. Produced from organically farmed Perricone — one of nearly 70 indigenous varietals in Sicily — this jewel-toned red offers notes of ripe red plum, blueberry, backed by spicy black pepper and bay leaf, framed by subtle hints of cocoa, cedar, and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is bold, yet soft and round, with polished tannins. Decant this delicious sipper for an hour and enjoy today alongside brisket and roasted chicken, aged cheeses, or vegetable lasagna, or cellar for up to five years.

Feudo Montoni

Feudo Montoni is one of Sicily's most ancient estates, dating back to the 16th century, when its earliest wines were first praised by Andrea Bacci, the Vatican court's official sommelier, in his "De Naturali Vinorum Historia." Today, the winery is overseen by third-generation winemaker Fabio Sireci. “Our wines are manipulated as little as possible by human intervention,” says Fabio Sireci of his family’s methods, which employ the “cru concept” of bottling a wine from the best grapes in a single vineyard. The winery is certified organic and all operations are done by hand, allowing it to produce exquisite wines using some of Italy’s most lauded indigenous varietals—Perricone, Nerello Mascalese, Catarratto, Grillo, Inzolia, Nero d’Avola and Passito.
