Montevertine Toscana Rosso 2022

750ml

Sale price$135.00

Originally produced as a Chianti Classico Montevertine from 1971 - 1981, it’s now simply known as Montevertine since their exit from the Chianti Classico Consortium in 1982. Made from 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, and 5% Colorino, the wine is fermented in concrete tanks for 21 days and then aged in Slavonian and Allier oak barrels for two years, with an additional three months in bottle. A rich red wine full of dark red fruit notes, rose petal, mint, and baking spice, it pairs excellently with eggplant parm, pizza, grilled meats, and stews.

Montevertine

Located in the heart of the Chianti hills, Montevertine was purchased in 1967 by Sergio Manetti, a then steel industrialist, as a vacation home. He renovated the house, and immediately planted two hectares of vineyard and set up a small cellar, intending to produce some wine for his friends. The first vintage, 1971, was decent, and Sergio decided to send a few bottles to Vinitaly in Verona via the Siena Chamber of Commerce. It was greatly received, leading him to devote his time and efforts towards winemaking. There’s been a generational shift with the winery now in the hands of Martino Manetti, Sergio’s son, after Sergio’s passing. Martino is continuing the traditional winemaking methods, with a focus on traditional Chianti varietals — Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Colorino. Montevertine strives towards their guiding principles everyday: simplicity, respect, attention to detail, and savoir-faire.
