Matsui Whisky

Matsui Whisky 3pc Gift Set

200ml
$89

Known historically as both a sake brewery and shochu distillery, Matsui is recognized the world over for whisky production thanks to its Kurayoshi Distillery. Utilizing over a century of brewing, distilling, and blending experience, Matsui continues adding greater variety to the landscape of Japanese whisky while simultaneously maintaining their own house style, which is captured beautifully in this 3pc gift set. Each set contains one 200ml bottle each of three outstanding single malt Japanese whiskies produced by Matsui Whisky in Tottori, Japan and distilled from 100% malted barley in Japanese copper pot stills at the famed Kurayoshi Distillery. Here’s what’s inside:

  • Sakura Cask Whisky: An incredibly bright nose of strawberry and red apple is grounded by earthy aromas of minerals, wet clay, and young wood; the palate is fruity and floral, with apple notes leading subtle cacao, vanilla, cherry blossom, and oak tannins

  • Mizunara Cask Whisky: Aged in coveted Mizunara oak casks, it contains aromas of candied pineapple, palo santo, and sweet cedar transition to a silky palate bursting with stone fruit—peaches, plums, and mangos—and toasted cereal grain on a long finish of pineapple fiber, apricot, and white tea

  • The Peated: Leather, charred oak, damp forest floor, and a touch of vanilla greet the nose before progressing to a light, oily palate of cherry tobacco, toasted cinnamon, and freshly cut white oak with burnt marshmallow, pine resin, and white pepper on the finish

Matsui Whisky

Founded in 1910, Matsui Whisky is located in Tottori Prefecture, northwest of Kyoto, on the shore of the Sea of Japan. With a house philosophy to create “whisky to be loved by everyone,” Matsui offers a range of 100% Japanese-distilled single malt whiskies, as well as pure malt and blended whiskies, gin, and umeshu (Japanese plum liqueur).

Tottori is the least populous prefecture in Japan, with over 14% comprising a natural park packed with lush vegetation, rugged coastlines, rivers, lakes, and most notably, Mount Daisen, which influences the prized groundwater used in all Matsui expressions. This mineral-rich water is softened by natural filtration through the volcanic soil and extracted from a deep aquifer.

Known historically as a sake brewery and shochu distillery, Matsui is now recognized globally for whisky production thanks to its Kurayoshi Distillery. Utilizing over a century of brewing, distilling, and blending experience, Matsui continues adding greater variety to the landscape of Japanese whisky while maintaining their own house style.
