La Cayetana Criolla Blanca 2025

750ml

Sale price$25.00

What started as a restoration project of an old Manor House built in the mid 1800’s, eventually turned into husband and wife, Eduardo Soler (of Ver Sacrum) and Emilia Armando, launching La Cayatena in 2016. This white wine is a unique hand-harvested blend of 90% Criolla Blanca with the rest being a tri-varietal “dosage” of Gewürztraminer, Viognier, and Semillon. Pressed separately and fermented using native yeast, the Criolla Blanca is aged with the lees for 6 months in concrete eggs, while the tri-varietal blend is aged for 2 years under flor in French oak and added as a dosage at bottling. The nose is lifted with notes of apricot, yellow apple, golden kiwi, brioche, yellow wax bean, daffodils, and white smoke. On the palate the wine is light and beautifully textured with a mineral mix of crushed wet rock, apricot, honeysuckle, peach, and hints of white pepper. The generous acid profile on the finish keeps you coming back for more! Fantastic on its own or alongside ceviche, grilled fish, grilled vegetables, and light tapas.

La Cayetana

In 2014, Emilia Armando and Eduardo Soler (Ver Sacrum winemaker) embarked on a restoration project of an old manor house that had been abandoned for 40 years in Cruz de Piedra, Maipú, Argentina, 20 minutes outside of the city center of Mendoza. Their home was originally built in the mid-1800s, and there was once a 168-acre vineyard that was originally planted in 1860. Over the years, the estate was visited by cardinals and generals, and the property still contains a library which houses numerous documents and books illustrating the various historical and agricultural stages of the estate and the region. In 2016, they founded La Cayetena and released their first wines in 2020. Today, the historic property primarily acts as an experimental vineyard nursery that provides new vines through massale selection for both Ver Sacrum and La Cayetena. Emilia and Eduardo continue to revive their vines, gardens, and olive trees, respecting old ancestral farming techniques, always with long-term sustainability in mind.
