'Erre de Herrero' Rueda 2024

Bodega Herrero is a family winery rooted in Nieva, within the D.O. Rueda appellation of Segovia, Spain. The story begins with patriarch José María Herrero, a pioneer who played an instrumental role in establishing D.O. Rueda's official status and helped revitalize the region's wine culture from the late 1980s onward — supported by his wife Janine Vedel, herself born into the vineyards of Languedoc in southern France. What began as a harvest of 60,000 kg of grapes grew over two decades into more than 630,000 kg, a testament to the family's tireless dedication to the land.

Today, the next generation — brothers José María, Juan Miguel, and Javier Herrero Vedel — carries that legacy forward with a bold vision that blends tradition and innovation. Having grown up alongside their family's vines, the three brothers bring a rare combination of deep agricultural knowledge, technical expertise, and entrepreneurial spirit to Herrero Bodega. They were among the first to vinify wines using 100% Verdejo grapes and pioneered the use of ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines for unparalleled expression of terroir. Farming organically across prized parcels in Nieva, their wines are defined by the indigenous Verdejo grape, continental climate, and gravelly soils, producing whites of striking freshness, personality, and quality.
