This red wine is a bold blend of 82% Syrah, 6% Grenache, 5% Petite Sirah, 3% Mourvedre, and 3% white varietals, all sourced from three of the estate vineyards and each contributing to the character of the wine. With 2022 being a dry year, the stems were more pliable allowing them to ferment a third of the grapes whole cluster — a relatively high percentage for Syrah. A little more than half the wine was aged in new barrels, while the remaining wine was aged in 1-3 year old barrels, adding an elegance to the wine. A dark and lush wine, notes of blue fruits, fennel, white pepper, and spice shine through. This wine is velvety and complex with creamy tannins and a long finish, making it a superb pairing with lamb, filet mignon, and squab.

Sine Qua Non

Sine Qua Non wines were born out of pure passion and a wishful dream — to make something that is so distinctive and so delicious as to make it indispensable to wine lovers all over the world. A rather lofty, even unrealistic notion, Elaine and Manfred Krankl still decided to pursue it anyway. What started as a hobby, has become not only their full-time occupation, but their whole life. While they’re a Rhone house at heart, with Syrah and Grenache taking center stage supported by Mourvedre, Roussanne, and Viognier, they also grow non-Rhone-origin grapes like Petit Manseng, Touriga Nacional, Graciano, and Petite Sirah. Their goal is to understand Mother Nature’s often oblique ways, (re)act accordingly, and showcase everything California has to offer in every glass of their wines.
