This crisp, mineral-forward Chardonnay hails from Becker’s borderland vineyards straddling Pfalz and Alsace, France. Grown on a limestone bed, the grapes are grown in a heavy topsoil of loam and clay, which is relatively rare for this area. The sustainably farmed fruit is hand-harvested and left to rest on skins for 12 hours before pressing into stainless steel tanks for fermentation, which helps maintain freshness. Before bottling the wine is aged in huge, neutral oak barrels for almost fine months to allow the fruit notes to mature and even out with the wine’s natural acidity. The result? A beautiful, bright white wine with a nose of lemon curd, candied lemon peel, and a touch of white smoke. The finish is long, elegant, and refreshing, making this about as far from your mom’s California Chardonnay as you can get. This is perfect for poultry, roasted vegetable melanges, and even salmon.
