Rare Wine Co. Historic Series
The Rare Wine Co. is recognized as one of America’s premier wine merchants, in the dual roles of national importer and retailer. They represent more than 30 iconic producers in the U.S. and vigorously champion several dozen others whose wines and philosophy they deeply admire with an unparalleled library of wines dating back decades. In 1998, The Rare Wine Co. began a project with Ricardo Freitas of Vinhos Barbeito to create a series of moderately priced Madeiras with the aromatic fingerprint and classic flavors of far more expensive vintage wines. It took years of work, but in 2003, they began releasing the wines which are named in honor of American cities with strong ties to Madeira, which was at one point widely regarded as the most prestigious wines in the U.S. during the 18th and 19th centuries. Each wine in the series, New York Malmsey, Boston Boal, and Charleston Sercial represents a style of Madeira popular in the cities they're named after.
