Region Of The Week: San Juan

The second largest wine region in Argentina, San Juan is located in the central-west in the valleys of the Andes Mountains. With vines first planted in the 15th century by the Spanish, the winemaking tradition was carried on by Spanish and Italian immigrants in San Juan.

Now, it spans across roughly 29,000 hectares with a warm and dry continental climate. While there’s little rainfall, San Juan has two rivers to provide natural irrigation as well as the melting snow from the mountains.
