Region Of The Week: Clare Valley

A small region with a big reputation, Clare Valley’s 5,000 hectares are nestled in the Mount Lofty Ranges in Southern Australia. Although Clare Valley is one of Australia’s oldest wine regions, with the first vines planted in the 1840s, they believe in combining tradition with innovation making them an influential region. While they are best known for Riesling, they also produce stunning Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, all three making up 80% of their wine production.

Kaesler Clare Wine Co. Watervale Riesling 2020

Winemakers Stephen Dew and Reid Bosward are responsible for producing the wines under the Clare Wine Co. brand, which was founded in 2008 by the owners of Kaesler Wines. This Watervale Riesling represents some of the finest fruit found in the region. Pale straw in the glass, the wine offers notes of zesty citrus, white peach, and crushed white flowers. On the palate, hints of lychee come forward and carry through to the length finish. A great option for spicy fare or fried chicken.
