Producer Spotlight: Catch & Release Wines

Producer Spotlight: Catch & Release Wines

This July, we’re continuing to support producers who not only make great wine, but who also stand for something, which is why we’re so thrilled to highlight Catch & Release Wines.

Started in 2019 by husband-and-wife team Beno and Monica Stewart, Catch & Release serves as an outlet for creative expression, partnership, and an opportunity to support those who choose to farm in a conscious manner. Their aim is to make serious wines without taking themselves too seriously.

Raw materials are at the core of their philosophy. The Stewarts' sourced fruit comes from select organic or biodynamically farmed vineyards that range from deep Mendocino to the Santa Cruz Mountains. All wines are fermented natively, with no additives, and the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur.

Check out these delightful wines from Catch & Release Wines:

Anyone Anytime Anyplace Red Blend 2023

A fun, yet serious chillable red wine, Anyone Anytime Anyplace offers swirling red fruit notes and grounding earth tones. It’s made from all organically farmed grapes that were fermented separately and then blended together and bottled unfiltered. The Syrah, from Sonoma Valley, was fermented whole cluster in stainless steel, pressed and moved to neutral oak barrels where it was aged for an additional 18 months. Originating from Mendocino, the Grenache was de-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel as well before being moved to neutral oak for 10 months. While the Chardonnay, from Ukiah Mendocino, was direct pressed, barrel fermented, and aged on its lees for 6 months. Together, they create an extremely drinkable red wine that goes fantastically with lasagna, Korean BBQ, and roasted eggplant.

Middle Child Orange Wine 2024

This wine is a blend of organically farmed Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Riesling that is fermented separately using native yeasts. The Chardonnay is de-stemmed and fermented on the skins for 14 days in stainless steel. The Riesling and Chenin Blanc are foot treaded and macerated on the skins for two days before being pressed and moved to stainless for primary fermentation. The wine is then aged in a mixture of stainless steel and neutral oak for 10 months and bottled unfiltered. Middle Child offers fresh apricots and a kiss of flinty caramel on the nose that makes way for a textured and layered palate of peach blossoms, tangerine and life affirming acidity. Great for a solo date, but also plays well with burrata, smoked salmon, and chana masala.

Swim Good Pet Nat 2025

This stunning sparkling Albarino hails from 13 year old vines that sit on ancient cobbly soils deep in California’s Borden Hills AVA. The grapes are direct pressed and allowed to settle for 48 hours before primary fermentation using native yeast in a single stainless steel tank. The wine continues fermentation in bottle for eight months before being labeled and released in April 2025. The resulting wine is a glitter bomb of tropical fruits on the nose, anchored by posture-correcting acidity and hints of savory herbs on the palate and fine, lively bubbles that inevitably lead to a second glass. Enjoy alongside ceviche, herb-crusted chicken, and summer fare.
