Description

Produced from wines at least 45 years old, this Sauvignon Blanc is the most generous and earthy of the Pouilly-Fumés produced at Marc Deschamps’ historic estate. The “Vignes de Berge” is a 3.5 hectare parcel on kimmeridgian marne soils with a high proportion of stones known in the appellation as “terres blanches.” The wine is flinty and intense, reminiscent of a Riesling, but with cool, fresh, and precise aromas of gooseberry, kiwi, elderflower, nectarine, and lime. The finish is long and stony, great for food!

For several generations, the domaine was the property of the Figeat family, most recently under the supervision of Paul Figeat, the long-time mayor of Pouilly Sur Loire. In the 1980s, Marc Deschamps worked in collaboration with Monsieur Figeat at that time and continued to do so for over a decade, tending the vineyards and crafting the wine. Upon Paul Figeat’s untimely death in 1991 in an auto accident, Marc Deschamps purchased the domaine from the estate. Since that time he has modernized the equipment and continued to add to the well-placed vineyard holdings. Practicing organic.
