Tierra Fundida

Tierra Fundida

Tierra Fundida translates to “molten earth,” an apt description of the volcanic terroir farmed by Loreto Pancorbo and Gabriel Morales across 7 hectares in Tenerife’s Tacoronte and Orotava Valley zones. The couple live and work out of their home winery deep in the Tenerife countryside, having launched their label in 2017 after years spent in more conventional cellars.

With a total production of just 10,000 bottles, everything is done by hand. Grapes are farmed organically, with biodynamic practices including, the 500 preparation, Maria Thun's preparation, herbal tea infusions, and carefully chosen plants to enrich the soil. There is no machinery in the winery — wines are largely racked by gravity, made from whole clusters, and vinified in concrete, uncoated clay amphorae, old wood, and demijohns. The use of amphorae is a deliberate choice, minimizing the reductive character that can dominate wines from the region and allowing Tenerife's remarkable terroir to speak clearly through every sip.
