Vel’uveyra Ribiera Sacra Tinto Mencia 2023

750ml

Sale price$24.00

This medium-bodied, refreshing red comes from the Ronsel do Sil’s steep terraced vines that range between 10-60 years old. Vel`uveyra, which means “to gaze at the vineyards” in the local dialect, is predominately Mencia, with small amounts of Garnacha and the local Negreda, all from granitic soils. On the nose, red peppercorn, dark brambly fruit and a delicate floral perfume. The palate is refreshing and easygoing, with dried herbs, white pepper, blackberry and black cherry coming to the fore. Just 12% alcohol, this is lovely with a slight chill or alongside roasted fish and vegetable dishes.

Ronsel do Sil

Founded in 2010 in Ribiera Sacra, one of the world's most extreme grape growing regions, Ronsel do Sil is dedicated to making high-quality wines using indigenous, traditional varietals. Maria José Yravedra manages the winemaking and the winery’s 10 hectares of vineyards, which are planted on terraced slopes ranging from 300-700m above sea level and farmed using natural and biodynamic farming principles. Her philosophy is based on what she calls “heroic” viticulture, reflecting a sincere balance with nature, though love and compromise with the land.
