Lopez de Heredia

Vina Cubillo Crianza 2016

$38

Though bottled young, it still sees two years in used American oak barrels and another two in bottle prior to release, giving it the time to develop beautifully while still maintaining its youthful personality. A classic blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and small amounts of Graciano and Mazuelo from vines averaging 40 years, there are spice-accented aromas of red berries and cherry cola with a smoky nuance throughout. Supple and energetic with zesty acidity at the core and a long, smooth finish handled with a gentle tannic grip and snap of peppery spices.

Lopez de Heredia

When D. Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta began building his winery in 1877, he never could have imagined that his masterpiece would one day be widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest wine estates. Like many medieval masterpieces, the buildings stand below and above ground - a veritable “Cathedral to wine.” As with cathedrals of the past, work on building the winery is never-ending, with every successive member of the family taking on the task of completing an aspect of the founder's original vision. Today the estate covers roughly 13 acres, with each generation leaving their mark on the winery, while continuing a traditional winemaking approach.
