When it comes to Oregon wine, the Willamette Valley captures most of the spotlight and marquee value. Indeed, it’s often called the crown jewel of the Pacific Northwest. However, just a few miles down the road, tucked inside the Umpqua Valley, is a unique, single-vineyard AVA called Red Hill Douglas County that offers rich volcanic soils, high elevation slopes, and singular exposure to the cooling winds of the Pacific Ocean. This cooler, windier microclimate can be a challenge for winemakers, however in the hands Anne Sery, the land can produce vibrant, nuanced reds like this Pinot Noir. Bright and fresh, with a lively perfume of red berries, delicate pink flowers, and baking spice, the palate a complex and layered experience wrapped in texture and succulent red and black berries.

Benoni Wine Co.

Benoni Wine Co. is  project from budding wine superstar Anne Sery. The daughter of a French diplomat, Anne was born on the island of Réunion in the Mascarenes, about 450 miles east of Madagascar, and grew up around fabulous Burgundies from producers like Ghislaine Barthod and Louis Boillot, which sparked her own passion for winemaking. After studying with oenologist Denis Dubourdieu, Anne moved to the Pacific Northwest, and continued her training with Laurent Montalieu at Soléna Estate in Yamhill. After a few years at Soléna Estate, she became the winemaker at NW Wine Company in McMinnville, which provides her a state-of-the-art facility for custom winemaking, and allows her free reign to pursue this project, which celebrates the unique terroir of Red Hill Douglas County, a single vineyard AVA in southern Oregon, as well as access to some of the best vineyards in the Pacific Northwest.
