Quinta da Costa do Pinhao

Quinta da Costa do Pinhao

Quinta da Costa do Pinhão is nestled in the dramatic Douro Valley near the isolated town of Pinhão, where the Morão Mountains block Atlantic influence and create an intensely hot, dry growing climate. Miguel Morais, the seventh generation of his family's grape-growing dynasty, manages the estate's 24 organically farmed hectares — home to over 25 ancient native Portuguese varieties. After studying Civil Engineering in Porto, he returned in 2007, refurbished the 19th-century winery in 2014, and partnered with renowned winemaker Luis Seabra to launch a bold new chapter for the estate.

Together, Miguel and Luis embraced organic viticulture, a minimalist approach to winemaking, and the estate's antique gravity-fed winery to craft wines that honor the land's deep tradition. While half of the harvest is still sold to the historic Sandeman Port house, the remaining fruit goes into the Quinta da Costa do Pinhão label — first bottled under its own name in 2014 — representing an exciting new direction for one of the Douro's most storied family estates.
