Pernod
Pernod, named for founder Henri Louis Pernod, was once Pernod Fils, the premier name in absinthe worldwide until the absinthe ban of 1905 that was enacted in the US and much of Europe. Though the distillery was built in 1805, the business deal that launched Pernod Fils was even earlier, in 1797. Though absinthe never quite recovered in popularity from the blow the ban dealt, Pernod found a way around this hardship by making a liqueur d'anis that has revived the company's business.
