Description
Weingut AM Stein sits in the western part of Franconia where limestone and terraced vineyards define the style of Silvaner made there: racy, savory, firmer, and more linear than the versions farther east. This is an amazing example. Produced from organic fruit by fifth-generation winemakers Ludwig and Sandra Knoll, the nose is zesty and herbal, with hints of lemon pith. The palate reveals notes of orchard tree blossoms, salty minerality, and a lovely, food-friendly texture. A tried-and-true match for spring vegetables, flaky fish, and sushi.
Staff Pick: "This dry, acidic, crisp German white has notes of lemon zest, flowers, and a pleasing minerality. Pair with salmon, fresh green veggies, and dreams of spring!" - Tim

AM Stein
Franken (a.k.a. Franconia) lies about a two hours east of Frankfurt in the opposite direction from what most Americans know as German “wine country.” It possesses its own unique history, language, and geology, distinct from the Rhineland-Palatinate. Here, along the steep banks of the Main River, and its tributary the Regnitz, is the undisputed homeland of Silvaner, the ancient varietal that has become the calling card of this region. Weingut AM Stein sits in the western part of Franconia where limestone and terraced vineyards define the style of Silvaner made there: racy, savory, firmer and more linear than the versions farther east. The estate is in the village of Würzburg at the foot of the 1,200+ year old Würzburger Stein, one of the most famous grand cru’s in Europe.
Ludwig and Sandra Knoll are thefifth generation of the family to lead this critically acclaimed estate, having taken the reins in 1991. A VDP member winery, certified biodynamic by Respekt and certified EU organic, no synthetic or chemical pesticides, herbicides or artificial fertilizers are used in any of the vineyards.
