Scott Kirkpatrick loves Petit Sirah. He loves it so much that he and his partner, Allison Watkins, founded a winery dedicated to the varietal, believing it to be the perfect lens through which to explore the potential of California winemaking. A bit of an American classic when it comes to grapes, it was one of the most important varietals planted in California for nearly 80 years, so its historical roots on the left coast run deep. “One of our favorite things about California is that it contains a seemingly endless amount of distinct areas with their own plants, rocks, views, and people,” they said. “If you drive one hour in five different directions, there is a  good chance you will find yourself in five vastly different places. By focusing on the Petite Sirah grape, and by using a more hands off winemaking approach, or in other words, by allowing the blend to reveal its own distinctive nature, we can see how any of these unique places yields a completely unique wine.”
