Description
Freisa is cousin to Nebbiolo, known for its lush strawberry and raspberry aromas and freshness. This entry, from Piemontese cult fave, Ferdinando Principiano, is romantic and elegant, with seductive complexity, freshness, and a fascinating texture. Organically farmed, this is a lovely wine to drink now with a light chill and braised short ribs or agnolotti, but it can also age magnificently.

Ferdinando Principiano

Ferdinando Principiano produces ethereal, world-class elegant and natural wines in the Barolo subzone of Monforte, from vineyards in Monforte, Serralunga, and Alta Langa. He started nearly 30 years ago, in 1993, with 7 hectares from his father and grandfather, and today farms nearly 21 hectares of vineyards using exclusively organic farming practices that promote biodiversity in and around his vineyards. This includes buying adjacent forests, and creating a pond at the base of his Boscareto cru that acts as a home for migratory birds, and a chorus of frogs. All cellar work is low-intervention.
