Pfeffingen

Herrenberg Grosses Gewachs Riesling 2022

$59

Weingut Pfeffingen, idyllically located amidst its vineyards, is operated by oenologists Jan Eymael, his wife Karin and his mother Doris. All three of them are passionate wine-growers, whose unconditional endeavors to achieve top quality, even on a small scale, make this traditional Pfälzer family operation truly special. Herrenberg, the vineyard this wine calls home, is one of the most famous vineyards in the Pfalz region. In 1828, it was classified by the Royal-Bavarian Land Taxation laws as a first-class vineyard. The mild climate produces powerful, but elegant wines with a good acidity structure. The soil is dominated by a high content of limestone which adds a very mineral character to the wine. In English, this means this gorgeous Riesling opens with notes of peach, apricot, and powdered ginger. Beautifully textured, yet dry, the wine is soft, yet powerful, and elegant from the first sip to the last. A perfect exemplar of the 2022 vintage. Do not wait on this one.

Pfeffingen

Weingut Pfeffingen has competed with the best wine estates of Germany for years and their sense of family has given pride of place to their estate vineyards in the Pfalz. Three generations of the Eymael family live and work together at the attractive estate situated on the Deutsche Weinstrasse. Their coat of arms is displayed on the front of every bottle, with its mythical unicorn, which was conferred in 1622 by Emperor Ferdinand II.

Pfeffingen wines are unique. They are rich in minerals, full of character, and have a fine fruitiness. Their outstanding quality is due not least to their firstclass vineyard sites – Ungsteiner Herrenberg and Ungsteiner Weilberg. The Herrenberg site has chalky soil. The Weilberg site consists of terra rossa (red loam) – quite unique in German wine country.
