Fritz Muller

Founded in 2009, Fritz Müller is a project by Guido Walter and Jürgen Hofmann. “Can Müller-Thurgau do Dolce Vita?”, Walter -- a wine merchant and educator -- mused while the whole world was quaffing Prosecco. The robust Müller-Thurgau had become dated and transformed into cheap, gulpable juice for the masses in the 1980s. Walter has an intuitively good feel for the market and his audience. When people say, “That won’t be possible”, the fun for him just begins. Winemaker Jürgen Hofmann is the “guy next door” – honest, down-to-earth, and deeply connected to his homeland in Rheinhessen. It is because of him that the wine world looks attentively toward Appenheim wines. Hofmann never doubted the potential of Müller-Thurgau, and set out to prove it with his formidable winemaking chops and commitment to creating wine that expresses the geography, culture, and character of Rheinhessen.
