Champagne Drappier

Champagne Drappier

The Gallo-Romans planted the first vine in Urville, in the Côte des Bar, around 2,000 years ago, but it wasn’t until 1152 that Saint Bernard, founder of the Clairvaux Abbey, had cellars built into the land that would later become home to Champagne Drappier. Seven centuries later (in 1808), the Drappier family winery was established around the magnificently preserved medieval Abbey. Today, ancient abbey and Drappier vineyards are like family archives that perpetuate the family’s and the land’s history. They grow Pinot Noir as well as heirloom grape varietals including Fromenteau, Arbanne, Petit Meslier and Blanc Vrai. They also work to highlight highlight the many facets of their unique terroir through vinification techniques, including low-sugar dosage and low-intervention winemaking.
