Birgit Wiederstein
The best way to describe winemaker Birgit Wiederstein could be as a “serious free spirit.” She reads poetry (her cuvée Anna Blume is titled after her favorite poem by Kurt Schwitters). “I see my task as recognizing and promoting the connections between soil, climate, vine, and wine,” she says, describing her work as that of a “winemaking companion” rather than a winemaker. Birgit's vines and 280 year-old cellar are in Göttlesbrunn, the center of the Carnuntum wine region, and have been certified biodynamic since 2019.
