Bernard Baudry

Bernard Baudry

Bernard Baudry founded his eponymous estate in the early 1980's with a couple of inherited hectares. After graduating from the Lycée de Beaune, he quickly rose to fame throughout the Loire Valley for his precise, textured interpretations of Chinon. Today, the estate extends across 32 hectares of a diverse patchwork of gravel, limestone, and sandy soils in Cravant les Coteaux and Chinon. All fermentation is natural and done with no chemical or thermal correctors, to leave the grapes to express their origins. Aging takes place in unlined cement vats for the softest wines, and in oak for more structured wines. Bottling is done without filtration except for rosé wine, white wine and their top cuvee, Les Granges.

Bernard is technically retired (vignerons never really retire) and his son Matthieu, who has been making wine with his father since 2000, has taken over as head winemaker.
