Unorthodox is a uniquely refreshing take on Kosher wines, produced under the auspices of the Cape Town Beth Din and the Orthodox Union of the U.S., and in honor of the Backsberg family’s Jewish heritage. Dry and fresh, with notes of golden apple and tropical fruit, the wine is a great partner for chicken, fish, and any holiday table. Vegan, Mevushal, and Kosher for Passover.

Red
Domaine Coillot La Charme Aux Pretres Marsannay 2021
Domaine Coillot is an unfussy, old-school Burgundy domaine in the best way, following Christophe Coillot’s philosophy to make terroir-driven wines as naturally as possible, with the least amount of intervention in the vineyard. Hand harvested, this lushly aromatic Pinot Noir is a great example of their work, with notes of cherry, blackcurrant, and a hit of spice. Full and rich on the approach, the wine has supple, sublime tannins and a long, velvety finish that leaves you wanting more with every sip.
Negretti Mirau Barolo 2016
Born from an incomparable vineyard, which delivers extraordinary grapes thanks to its microclimate, soil composition, and richness of microelements, this unique wine has an amazing history. Aged in Swiss oak for 24 months, this Barolo doesn’t accept any compromise with notes of incense, turmeric, sandalwood, black liquorice and hints of faraway spices. Blackberry and gooseberry awash the palate with a spicy finish. Enjoy alongside venison stew, osso buco, and cottage pie.
Rose
Famille de Boel je vous Adore Rose 2021
Made from 100% Caladoc, this rose is full of freshness, fruit, and delicate flowers. An ode to a universal love, this wine exists in part thanks to the inhabitants and farmers who welcomed Famille de Boel to the area, and partly to the old farmer who expressed his enthusiasm of seeing new vineyards on the hill with a simple, “je vous adore.” This biodynamic rose has aromas of citrus, flowers, and stone fruit, while the palate is fruity with balanced lingering acidity, backed by subtle floral notes. Enjoy alongside chili con carne, lamb chops, and fish.
Pares Balta Ros de Pacs 2021
This organic and biodynamic pale rosé, made from Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, opens with surprisingly juicy red summer fruits, lush pink and white flowers, and fresh herbs. From the first sip to the last, this wine is soft and refreshing, with a balanced acidity and just enough structure to make it a great companion to summer fare.
Sparkling
Bereche et Fils Brut Reserve NV
We receive less than three cases annually of this gorgeous bubbly from brothers Raphael and Vincent Bereche. They use meticulous care from start to finish in their cellars and vineyards to produce this incredibly precise and linear Brut Reserve Champagne. Produced from a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, with 35% reserve wines each year, notes of orange blossom, apple, and brioche, explode across the nose and palate. Crisp and fine minerality, coupled with a soft, pillowy mousse make this Champagne a breath of fresh air.
Castello Bonomi Franciacorta Brut NV
The Champagne of Italy, this dry bubbly is a vibrant blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Nero with the bright palate offering ripe apple, lemon zest and a hint of bread crust alongside vigorous bubbles. The Chardonnay gives Franciacorta stability, elegance and personality, while the Pinot Nero gives the wine body, character and strength. The beauty of Franciacorta is in its endless versatility. Lush texture, bouncy brightness, and an undeniable prettiness makes it perfect for stoop hangs with friends and decadent celebrations alike.
White
Elio Grasso Educato Chardonnay 2021
Aged partly in stainless steel and partly in French oak barrique, this elegant Chardonnay is a reflection of its terroir. Planted in slightly sandy, limestone-based soil, this white wine has notes of ripe tree fruits that are balanced with gorgeous acidity and a creamy mouthfeel. Enjoy alongside fish, roasted chicken, or pork.
Gil Berzal Recoveco Rioja Blanco 2018
This is an organic blend of Viura and Malvasia grown biodynamically on a single plot in some of the best terroir in Rioja. Unfined, unfiltered, this dry, succulent white opens with subtle aromas of tropical fruit, apple, and white flowers that explode with notes of anise, fresh brioche, and sweet herbs. Fresh and nervy, the wine has a lovely balance of depth and mineral complexity. It’s delightful now, but will age wonderfully for up to 10 years.
