Grape Of The Week: Vernaccia di San Gimignano
Vernaccia is a group of several unrelated varieties, the most common being Vernaccia di Oristano, a Sardinian variety, and Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a Tuscan variety. Vernaccia di San Gimignano hails from Tuscany’s only white wine DOCG, making it a highly sought after wine. While its popularity isn’t quite as renowned outside of Italy, Vernaccia traces back to the 13th century, where it was served to kings and popes. Vernaccia di San Gimignano typically delivers notes of yellow apple, lemon, white flowers, almond, and salinity, making it fantastic alongside white meat, seafood, and savory pasta dishes.
Cesani Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2022
Produced from organically grown Vernaccia in San Gimignano, Tuscany, this is an elegant and crisp white with aromatic notes of citrus, white orchard fruits, and almond flowers. Full-bodied and balanced on the palate, every mineral-driven sip of this wine leaves you thirsting, quite literally, for more. The wine is as vibrant as the land it comes from, a great partner for seafood risotto, pork tenderloin, and even classic, Hunter-style roast chicken.
