#GGBookClub: Saluting The Women In Liquor & Literature
"There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish." — Michelle Obama
While men have consistently been recognized and glorified in the worlds of literature and booze, the contributions of women in these fields are abundant. From pioneers like Hannah Weinberger, Napa Valley’s first female winemaker, and Enheduanna, a priestess who wrote poetry a millennium before Homer, women have made an impact that spans the length of time in elegant, masterful, and bold ways. We’d like to honor the women who’ve continued this tradition with pairings of books and bottles that showcase their effect on the world.
Piglet by Lottie Hazell
Domaine Perrault-Jadaud 'Charivari' Brut Sparkling Rose 2022
Outside of a childhood nickname she can’t shake, Piglet’s rather pleased with how her life’s turned out. As an up-and-coming cookbook editor at a London publishing house, she’s got loyal friends and a handsome fiancé, Kit, who loves the delicious, unfathomably elaborate meals she’s always cooking. But when Kit confesses a horrible betrayal two weeks before they’re set to be married, Piglet finds herself suddenly…hungry. Although they decide to move forward with the wedding as planned, Piglet becomes increasingly unsettled, behaving in ways she can’t explain. An examination of women’s often complicated relationship with food and a celebration of the messes life sometimes makes for us, Piglet is a novel about the things we want and the things we think we want.
A delightful bubbly with creamy notes of strawberry and raspberry, Charivari is named after a French folk custom in which the community gives a noisy, discordant mock serenade, also pounding on pots and pans, at the home of newlyweds.
