There is a simple and honest feeling in the wine and spirit of Gerhard Pittnauer which hails from his generosity and humility. After inheriting the vineyard from his father, Gerhard, then 18 years old, had to train himself to make wine in the midst of scandal and chaos in the Austrian wine market. He chose to become a student of the broader wine world, opting to grow wine rather than make it in the cellar. The result are critically acclaimed darlings like this bright and beautifully refreshing orange wine made from a blend of Muskat Ottonel, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gelber Muskateller, and Traminer from Burgenland. Crisp, bright, fruity, the wine offers notes of elderflower and citrus blossom on the nose, ripe pears and button mushrooms on the palate, backed by enticing minerality and an impressive finish. Certified organic and biodynamic, this is a winner with all manner of cheeses, roasted poultry, salads, and hearty fall fare.
