Morillon 'Muschelkalk' 2020

$23
  • Organic

Morillon is the local name in Styria for Chardonnay. This organic territory wine comes from hand-harvested grapes grown on various plots of Tement’s best single vineyards in the area, predominantly grown on coralline limestone soil (Muschelkalk in German). After natural fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months on the lees in big, neutral oak casks before being bottled unfiltered. Delicate notes of grated apples, dandelion leaves and roasted almonds make this wine lively and a great partner for veal and mushroom dishes. Bright and balanced now, but even better after two-three years of bottle age.

Weingut Tement

Tement is, without question, one of the benchmark wine producers in Austria, specifically in the subregion of Sudsteiermark, or South Styria. This is largely due to the work of Manfred Tement, who steered the winery toward organic and biodynamic practices. They specialize in wine from three villages, Erenhausen, Gamlitz, and Kitzeck-Sausa, and specialize in white wines that speak to the essence of this unique region. Tement has been a member of the Demeter Association since 2022, and is a member of the Respekt Gruppe. The Südsteiermark DAC classification system has provided another seal of quality for single vineyard wines. The designation as “Große STK Ried”, “Erste STK Ried” and “STK Rieden” is not only an expression of unique wines, but an expression of special quality.
