Life really is a beach for winemaker Mirco Mariotti, who farms old vines in Bosco Eliceo, located on the Romagna side of Emilia-Romagna just 300 m from the Adriatic sea. This land is somewhat off the beaten path and laid back in a region known not only for its legendary food scene but also for its rich tradition of sparkling wines. In fact, Mirco’s wines are named after the card games locals play while hanging out at the beach. However, the area, salty, sandy, windy, with alternating fog and sun makes for a dramatic place for vines to grow. Mirco is also an avid ’s vines are extremely old and ungrafted, producing fascinating wines from their own native rootstock. He farms organically, focusing on local varietals such as Fortana and producing still and sparkling wines using the ancestral method.
