KRIPTA Cava Gran Reserva 2014
This flagship, prestige cuvee from Agusti Torello Mata is as beautiful as it is unique. Recognized as one of the top sparklers in the world, it is a blend of 45%, Macabeu, 35% Parellada, and 20% Xarel·lo from old vines, hand-riddled and disgorged, having spent 96 months on the lees and packaged in a STUNNING amphora-shaped bottle. Each bottle has the precise date of disgorgement. In the glass, this bubbly is pale yellow with golden highlights and fine bubbles. The aroma features creamy notes of ripe fruit, vanilla, and soft toasty nuances, and a slight balsamic note. Fine and elegant on the palate with a soft, silky texture and a background of vanilla, ripe fruit, toast, and truffle. With its very long and complex finish, it is ideal to accompany rich foods: caviar, fish, meat, foie gras, and semi-cured cheese.
Agusti Torello Mata
Agustí Torelló Mata, who is son of tailors and musicians, was born in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia in 1935. He started working at the age of 14 and at the age of 18 he opened the first wine analysis laboratory in Sant Sadurní. In 1960 he married Carmen Sibill Cardús, beginning a life that will always revolve around cava and that will consolidate him as one of the best winemakers in the country.
A man dedicated to Cava, in 1955 he made his first 500 bottles of cava, while he advised and directed important companies in the sector for years. In 1978 he produced his masterpiece: KRIPTA, recognized as one of the great sparkling wines in the world.
