Backsberg Kosher Chardonnay 2019

Charles Louis Back arrived in South Africa in 1902 as a Jewish refugee from Lithuania, eventually starting the Backsberg estate winery in 1916. Today, the vineyards remain family owned and operated, with an express focus on community and sustainable farming. In fact, Backsberg is South Africa’s first carbon-neutral winery. Lemon zest, melon, and hazelnut characters mingle with notes of white peach to give this wine a complex and fresh aroma. The wine is Mevushal and kosher for Passover. Made under the auspices of the Cape Town Beth Din and the OU of the United States.

Historically nestled on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain, equidistant to the cosy Winelands towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl, Backsberg Family Wines maintains produces a selection of tiered wine and brandy offerings from the region. As a winery of over 100 years, Backsberg’s philosophy remains to provide pleasure and enjoyment to a broad range of wine lovers by producing wines with not only structure and finesse, but also with a high level of drinkability.
