In Sicily, in particularly on the southeastern end of the island “Arà” means a few things — It could mean “hurry up,” or to express joy and playfulness. This second use is the idea behind this bold and elegant Nero d’Avola made from sustainably farmed grapes in Bufaleffi, in the countryside of Noto. Ruby-toned and luminous in the glass, the wine opens with a complex bouquet of red and black berries, warm spices, and forest woods. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, yet warm and velvety with smooth tannins and mouthwatering freshness. This wine ages exceptionally well — indeed, at 11 years old, it’s just starting to reach its potential. Decant for best results, and enjoy alongside grilled meats and pasta mains.
