When people talk about wines as being "gems," they talk about wines like this gorgeous, brilliantly colored, dark and savory red from Gerardo Michelini, with the help of his wife Andrea Mufatto (formally the winemaker at Gen del Alma), and their talented son Manuel. Made from biodynamically farmed Mencía, with a few splashes of Palomino, Doña Blanca, and Alicante Bouschet, the nose is expressive and floral, with notes of smoke, dark berries, and herbs. Tannins are fine and balanced, backed by minerality and a lingering finish that make it especially easy to drink. Pair with smoky chorizo or homemade fajitas.

Michelini i Mufatto

Michelini i Mufatto is a family winery by Andrea Mufatto, Gerardo Michelini and Manuel Michelini. The family is united by an approach based on respect for the land, purity, and elegance, implemented in three terroirs: the Uco Valley (Argentina), Bierzo (Spain), and Maldonado (Uruguay). Wines are farmed organically and biodynamically, with attention and intention in both the vineyard and the cellar. The result? Symmetrical, pure and sensitive wines which truly reflect not only their terroi, but also the essence of Michelini i Mufatto’s winemaking philosophy. These wines are more textured than fruity and more austere rather than exuberant, each of them unforgettable in their own way.
