Spain’s Basque region was historically famed region for fishermen and whalers. For hundreds of years, ships would sail through the Bay of Biscay to Getaria, and trade for barrels of wine produced by the small family farms nearby. The whaling business is long gone, but the winemaking heritage of this area is as strong as ever. Case in point: Akarregi Txiki, a traditional, family-owned winery that has been making wine in Getaria for several generations. Akarregi Txiki joined forces with Lasalde to form Lasalde Elkartea, producing a line of uniquely approachable and exciting wines that celebrate this rugged, beautiful land and its history.
